In this class, we go to the source of landscape painting with the wisdom from John F. Carlson’s Guide to Landscape Painting. We bypass the outdated language, and go to the heart of landscape painting with practical exercises in a controlled environment, updated materials, modern technology, and some of my favorite tools.

Not only will we understand the meaning of what has been shared over the decades,
we will apply our understanding into doing.

Live kick-off with a presentation on the life and legacy of John F. Carlson
(that you can watch any time)
Indoor exercises – the whole course is designed for the studio
Demos in oil paint (with instructions for pastel, watercolor and gouache) for each exercise that you can pause, rewind or fast forward
Opportunity to work at your own pace, while getting your questions answered in live Q&A sessions with additional explanation and demos as needed
Examples of each exercise for you to copy
Feedback on your work through the Q&A sessions

Course Inclusions

Live sessions – Join the live kick-off for course overview and live Q&A session to ask questions, get feedback, and connect with other students. Live sessions will be recorded for enrolled students to watch later.

Demonstration videos – Demonstrations done in real-time. Videos that you can watch, pause, rewind, and fast forward.

Assignments – Assignments to practice each of the exercises, or go at your own pace.

Stretch Exercises – Ready to really dive in? Take advantage of the bonus exercises to push yourself even further.

Feedback – While it isn’t required, you can choose to receive feedback on your work for more clarity.
