Learning to paint and learning to draw includes techniques, materials, and process. More importantly, it requires learning to see.

Through in-person instruction for both adults and youth, grounded in the classical atelier training I studied at the Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art, every student works from where they are and learns to see and apply the technical knowledge to their work. Whether you’ve never held a brush or you’ve been painting for years and want to sharpen your eye, there’s room for you here.

What to Expect

Classes follow a planned curriculum designed for real growth — not a series of disconnected projects, but a progression that builds skill on skill. We work through fundamentals like seeing shapes and values, understanding light and shadow, color mixing, and composition, working on projects over a period of time.

The heart of learning is personalized feedback. In a small in-person setting, I watch how you work and respond to what you need — where your drawing is off-kilter, why your painting doesn’t read from across the room, and how to bring your piece to life

Adult Classes

For adults, these classes are a chance to slow down and make something with your hands. Beginners are genuinely welcome — you don’t need any prior experience, just curiosity and a willingness to try.

Youth Classes

Young artists learn best when they’re given real skills and real encouragement. My youth classes introduce solid fundamentals in a way that keeps the joy in it — while repeating core skills and building confidence, as they see their own work improve. The curriculum grows with them, so there’s always a next step to challenge them.
